ABOUT JAMES HEARST
American poet, philosopher and professor who was sometimes called the “Robert Frost of the Midwest.” He wrote ten volumes of poetry and two books of prose.
He studied at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and volunteered for the U.S. Army.
He dove into shallow water when he was 19 and fractured his spine, becoming permanently paralyzed.
He married Meryl Norton Hearst and held classes in their basement.
He is often compared to and was friendly with poet Robert Frost .
