Co-founder and publisher of Rolling Stone magazine. He also owned Men's Journal and US Weekly.

He worked as an editor on UC Berkeley's school paper but left the university to launch his own magazines.

He co-founded the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation in 1983.

He fathered three sons with his wife Jane Schindelheim, but started dating Matt Nye after his divorce.

He interviewed many musicians, including Bono .
