Famous for her 1971 hit "Mr. Big Stuff," this soul, funk, and rhythm & blues singer also scored Billboard Hot 100 listings with "My Toot Toot" and "You Think You're Hot Stuff." She released 5 studio albums as a solo artist.

She began her music career as a singer at a Louisiana bar owned by her cousin and soon attracted the attention of music producer Huey Meaux.

She released a 1997 compilation album titled The Very Best of Me. "Mr. Big Stuff" has gained over 100 million streams on Spotify.

Born Jean Caliste, she grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana.

She received a 1971 Grammy nomination but ultimately lost the award to fellow R&B vocalist Aretha Franklin .
