ABOUT JIM WONG-CHU
Poet and historian who curated and edited multiple anthologies featuring Asian-Canadian writers, including 2015's AlliterAsian: Twenty Years of Ricepaper Magazine. He was honored with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013.
He studied photography and design at the Vancouver School of Art between 1975 and 1981.
He was honored in a Google doodle in January 2021. His 1986 poetry book Chinatown Ghosts was one of the first by an Asian-Canadian writer.
He passed away from stroke complications in 2017.
He and Li-Young Lee are both famous North American poets with Asian descent.
