ABOUT JOAKIM NILSSON

Swedish soccer star known for playing center-back for Major League Soccer club St. Louis City SC. He joined the club in July 2022 but did not play his first game until August 2023. He was a veteran of the German Bundesliga and the Swedish national team.

In 2012, he signed his first professional contract with GIF Sundsvall.

In 2016, he signed a five-year contract with IF Elfsborg. In 2019, he joined Bundesliga side Arminia Bielefeld. In November 2022, he had two knee surgeries and spent several months in recovery.

His older brother, Per Nilsson, once played for the Swedish national team. In August 2023, he walked the field with his sons Loah and Theo after winning a match against Austin FC at CityPark, Missouri.

He and Alexander Isak both played for the Swedish national soccer team.
