ABOUT JOHANNA WOKALEK
Famous for her acclaimed work in the German films The Baader Meinhof Complex (as the character Gudrun Ensslin), Barfuss (as Leila), and Pope Joan (as the title role), she is also recognized for her professional stage work in a Burgtheater (Vienna, Austria) production of The Threepenny Opera and in a Berlin production of the play Rose Bernd.
She appeared in her first professional theatrical production, a Wiener Festwochen staging of the play Alma, in 1996. Three years later, she made her feature film debut in Aimee & Jaguar.
In the summer of 2014, she performed in a Salzburg Festival production of the opera Charlotte Salomon.
The daughter of a Romanian dermatologist and professor, she spent her youth in Freiburg, Germany.
At the start of her career, she took four years of acting classes with the acclaimed Austrian actor and director Klaus Maria Brandauer .
