Opera and gospel singer who is best recognized for competing on season 19 of The Voice . He was a member of John Legend 's team. Before appearing on the reality competition show, he traveled the world performing Opera.
He taught himself piano by imitating his grandmother, who was a music director at a church. He grew up singing in various choirs.
He graduated from both Southern Methodist University and Juilliard.
He married his husband, Paul Gater, in 2013.
One of his most popular performances on The Voice features him singing the Coldplay song "Fix You."
