He listened to Leadbelly and Mississippi John Hurt in his neighborhood while growing up.
He wore a tie-dyed denim jacket, which is now on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
He married Catherine Sebastian and had two children with her.
He is the godson of Vivian Vance .
