He was born in Raleigh, North Carolina to a father who was a business man and athlete, and a mother who worked as a nurse.
He sang the National Anthem at a Braves vs Yankees game in August of 2015.
His wife Alex Sasser also tried out for American Idol. They had a daughter together named Westlund Joy. He has an older brother and a younger sister.
He and fellow American Idol semi-finalist Emily Brooke both auditioned out of Atlanta.
