She moved to New York City and began a career in computers. She published her first novel, The Eight, in 1988.
She was once an executive at Bank of America.
She grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. With her longtime partner, neuroscientist Karl H. Pribram, she settled in Washington, D.C.
She and Clive Cussler are both known for their adventure novels.
