ABOUT KEITH DOUGLAS

English poet remembered for "Desert Flowers" and other war-themed poems. He is also known for Alamein to Zem Zem, a posthumously-published war memoir.

His youth was marked by financial difficulties and by the divorce of his parents, and he was estranged from his father from a young age.

He was killed in action during the World War II Invasion of Normandy.

While studying at Merton College, Oxford, he fell in love with a Chinese exchange student who never returned his affections.

Malka Lee was another poet who wrote about wartime experiences.
