Actress known for playing Annie in the Hulu series The Handmaid's Tale . In 2018, she received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her performance in the series. She played Annelise Wilkinson in the comedy series Grandfathered . She also appeared in the 2020 season of the anthology series Manhunt: Deadly Games.
She graduated Georgia State University . Her first big acting break came when she was cast in a Kaiser Permanente live production. She went to high schools and performed a play about HIV/AIDS awareness.
She was a voice actor in the animated series Frisky Dingo. She appeared in television series including Happy Endings , Fuller House and Mixed-ish . She played Amara Patterson in All American: Homecoming .
She grew up as one of six children. Her husband is actor Melvin Jackson Jr. In 2018, she and her husband became the first African-American married couple to be nominated for an Emmy in the same year.
She appeared in The Handmaid's Tale, starring Elisabeth Moss and Joseph Fiennes .
