Retired hockey defenceman who played 17 seasons in the NHL for teams like the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins. He made 5 NHL All-Star games in the 90's.

He was born in Detroit, Michigan and was the 17th overall pick by the Washington Capitals in 1984.

He was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010.

His brother is fellow U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer Derian Hatcher .

He and Dale Hunter were both named captains of the Washington Capitals.
