ABOUT KHIEU SAMPHAN

Politician of the Khmer Rouge movement who served as head of state of Democratic Kamupuchea from 1976 to 1979.

He studied in Paris, where he founded the Khmer Students' Association.

He served as acting Prime Minister of Democratic Kampuchea, the rebel government at the time, for ten days in April of 1976 before surrendering to Cambodian government.

His father was a judge under the French colonial government who was sentenced to prison for corruption.

He succeeded Pol Pot as the Prime Minister of Democratic Kampuchea.
