NHL left winger who spent 19 years in the league and retired to coach the Carolina Hurricanes.

He had a solid minor-league career before joining the Montreal Canadiens and becoming the team's captain.

He was unexpectedly traded to the New York Islanders two years after helping the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup.

He grew up around Kingston in the Ontario province of Canada.

He was drafted second in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, just behind Mario Lemieux .
