She grew up in Windsor, Connecticut and graduated from the Berklee College of Music .

She has been a member of the award-winning group JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise.

Both of her parents were pastors. She has siblings.

She performed Whitney Houston 's "Run to You" on The Voice.
