British actor who became known for his role of Archie Mitchell on the BBC soap opera EastEnders and has starred in many stage plays since the '70s.
He was born in London and later worked in the oil industry in Canada and Libya. While living in Canada, he performed with the famous Stratford Festival and began his acting career in the theatre.

He was married to Linda Martin for nearly twenty years; following their divorce, he had a long-term relationship with Clare Burt. Through several relationships, he fathered two sons and three daughters.
