ABOUT LAURA AMY SCHLITZ
Newbery Medal-winning children's author. Her best-known works include Splendors and Glooms, Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices from a Medieval Village, and A Drowned Maiden's Hair: A Melodrama.
She worked as both a storyteller and librarian at a private school located in Brooklandville, Maryland.
She wrote A Gypsy at Almack's, a romance novel, under the pen name of Chloe Cheshire.
She grew up in Maryland and attended the state's Goucher College, graduating in 1977.
Her contemporary, fellow American children's author Dan Gutman , became famous for his Baseball Card Adventures series.
