ABOUT LAURENCE BINYON

British poet, playwright, and scholar who is best known for his 1914 poem "For the Fallen." His other poetic works include Winnowing Fan, London Visions, and The Madness of Merlin.

He graduated from Trinity College, Oxford and quickly took a job in the British Museum's Printed Books Department.

His father was a Quaker minister, and his maternal grandfather was a railway engineer.

He married historian Cicely Margaret Powell, with whom he had three daughters.

He and Ezra Pound belonged to a group of early twentieth-century writers and artists who often convened at London's Wiener Cafe.
