American poet, author, editor, and seventh United States Poet Laureate. Her poetry collections include This Measure, Midsummer, and the Bollingen Prize-winning Poems: A Selection.
Her first poetry collection, Those Not Elect, was published when she was a teenager.
She once shared tea with Gertrude Stein in Paris.
She married William Troy, a professor and fellow writer, in 1933.
She was the friend and Barnard College roommate of American anthropologist Margaret Mead .
