American country music singer who sang the hit songs "The Auctioneer" in 1956 and "Walk On By" in 1961.
He graduated with a degree in agricultural journalism from the University of Missouri before pursuing music as a career.
He has been a member of the National Association Hall of Fame.
He married former court reporter Gladys Van Dyke and they have a son named Ben.
He and Sheryl Crow are both country musicians from Missouri.
