Poet and author of Book of Forms, The Compleat Melancholick, Satan's Scourge, and other critically-acclaimed works. His later works include The Museum of Ordinary People and A Sheaf of Leaves: Literary Memoirs.
He attended the University of Connecticut and the University of Iowa.
He is associated with the New Formalism movement in American poetry.
He grew up in Buffalo, New York. He later taught creative writing classes at Cleveland State University.
He was inspired by the poetry of Emily Dickinson .
