He first picked up a surf board when he was four years old.

He previously blogged about his surfing aspirations on a Tumblr page that he called My Journey To Pro.

He was one of six brothers and sisters born to Karina Ormsby, who worked as a hairdresser.

He and Noah Beschen both developed their surfing skills at young ages.
