A goalkeeper for teams like Watford and Arsenal, he won the FA Cup with Arsenal in 2004-05.

His senior career began on Osasuna's reserve team in 1997.

He was awarded the Ricardo Zamora Trophy for being the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-to-games ratio in 2001-02.

He married Ana Almunia.

He and Wisconsin-born Jay Demerit have both played for Watford F.C..
