Margaret Hillert
ABOUT MARGARET HILLERT
American writer of children's literature. Her books for beginning readers earned her several literary prizes, including a Michigan Bookwoman of the Year honor and a Children's Reading Round Table of Chicago award.
Before beginning work on her popular Dear Dragon children's book series, she taught first grade in Michigan.
Though known mostly as a children's author, she also published poems.
She was born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan.
Her literary contemporary and fellow children's book author, Sid Fleischman , became famous for works such as Humbug Mountain and The Whipping Boy.
