He moved to London when he was 3 years old, and moved to Australia when he was 16. It was in Australia that he performed in amateur theatre groups which launched his acting career.
He appeared in the kid's show Skippy the Bush Kangaroo.
He died of an alcohol-related illness resulting in pneumonia. He had a brother and two sisters and had married twice.
He co-starred with Mick Jagger in 1970's Ned Kelly.
