ABOUT MARK O'BRIEN
American poet who was the subject of the Academy Award winning film Breathing Lessons: The Life and Work of Mark O'Brien in 1997 and the film The Sessions in 2012.
He contracted polio in 1955 which caused paralysis for the rest of his life, and he attended UC Berkeley in his early years.
He published an autobiography entitled How I Became a Human Being : A Disabled Man's Quest for Independence.
He grew up with family in Boston, Massachusetts.
John Hawkes portrayed him in the film The Sessions.
