Winger and midfielder who won the UEFA Europa League with Chelsea, and the UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship in 2009.
He began his youth career with Hoechst and then with Eintracht Frankfurt.
He won the silver Fritz-Walter-Medal in 2006 and the gold medal in 2008.
His mother had a job that required his family to move to Germany in 1991.
He chose Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart, originally sung by Ian Curtis , for Chelsea's karaoke-singing tradition.
