Martin Robertson
ABOUT MARTIN ROBERTSON
A British scholar of art and archaeology, he is known for published works such as The Art of Vase-Painting in Classical Athens (1992) and The Parthenon Frieze (1975). Also a poet, he published For Rachel (1972), A Hot Bath at Bedtime (1975), and several other collections.
He studied at Trinity College, Cambridge and spent time in Athens, Greece before returning to England. In 1936, he was hired by the British Museum as an assistant keeper of the Greek and Roman collections.
He was a student of the renowned art and archaeology scholar, John Beazley.
He was the son of Donald Struan Robertson and Petica Jones Coursolles. In 1942, he married Theodosia Cecil Spring Rice.
He was the father of musician Thomas Dolby .
