ABOUT MATT BERNINGER
Famous as the lead singer of the indie band The National , this rock vocalist and songwriter released several acclaimed albums with the group, including Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers, Alligator, Boxer, and the Grammy-nominated Trouble Will Find Me.
He met his future The National bandmate, Scott Devendorf, while they were both students at the University of Cincinnati.
In 2008, he and his bandmates supported the presidential campaign of Barack Obama by creating and mass-selling a t-shirt adorned with the words 'Mr. November' in reference to both a song by The National and the fact that the presidential election was being held in November.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he later settled in Brooklyn, New York. His marriage to journalist and songwriter Carin Besser resulted in a daughter named Isla.
He and fellow indie rock musician Scott Shriner (of Weezer) were both born in Ohio.
