ABOUT MEL TORME

Widely popular 20th century singer known as The Velvet Fog. He is best remembered for co-writing The Christmas Song or Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire with Bob Wells.

He sang with the Coon-Sanders Orchestra at the age of four and was widely hailed as a child prodigy. He also acted in radio serials The Romance of Helen Trent and Jack Armstrong, the All-American Boy from 1933 until 1941.

He was the teen idol of his generation after he appeared in Good News, the 1947 film musical.

He was married several times: first to Candy Toxton on February 11, 1949, then Arlene Miles on October 31, 1956, then Janette Scott on May 20, 1966, and finally to Ali Severson on October 30, 1984.

His first published song Lament to Love was a hit for Harry James .
