He was discovered by director Lino Brocka , one of the Philippines' most influential directors.

He was known as the Filipino Christopher Reeve , due to his striking looks.

He married fashion stylist and socialite Irene Salud on March 14, 1987.

He starred opposite Filipino singer/actress Sharon Cuneta in the 1983 film To Love Again.
