Republican politician who began serving Wyoming in the US Senate in 1997. He was known for his advocacy of democratic issues like alternative energy.
He owned a small shoe store called NZ Shoes.
As an accountant by trade, he served on the Senate Banking Committee, helping in large part to get the Sarbanes-Oxley bill passed.
He married his wife Diana on June 7, 1969; they had three children and five grandchildren.
He helped George W. Bush pass his No Child Left Behind act.
