ABOUT MIKEY SMITH
One of the most famous Jamaican dub poets, he is known for his songs "Mi Cyann Believe It" and "Roots". He and his music had left-anarchist leanings and Rastafarian sympathies, and he was very vocal on his politics.
He studied at Kingston College and the Jamaican School of Drama.
He is the subject of Peter Ashbourne's opera "Reggae Opera Mikey".
He was the son of a mason and a factory worker.
He often performed with Gregory Isaacs .
