Center back who joined Atletico Madrid in 2011 after spending five years with Sao Paulo. He debuted with the Brazilian national team in 2009.

He began his professional career with Coritiba in 2004.

He left Atletico Madrid for Internazionale in 2015. He was captain of the Brazilian national team at the 2016 Copa America Centenario.

He was born in Paranavai, Brazil.

He and Hulk became teammates on the Brazilian national team.
