She was born in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture and worked as a swimsuit model after being discovered in high school.

Her nickname in the industry is the 'Queen Bee of J-dorama'.

She married Takashi Sorimachi in 2001 and together they had two children.

Naomi Watts starred in the American remake of the Japanese film she originally starred in, The Ring.
