He is best known for his novel, Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family, which became the hit movie, Goodfellas. He wrote the script for the classic gangster film based off his novel with director Martin Scorsese .
He got his start as a journalist, profiling and writing about the Mafia.
In 2012, he wrote the pilot for the CBS program, Vegas.
He was married to wife, Nora Ephron , until her death.
He won the Best Adapted Screenplay for Goodfellas, which starred Ray Liotta .
