He grew up addicted to methamphetamine and heroin. He first obtained longer-term sobriety at age 28.
He has worked as a story editor and writer for the popular Netflix series 13 Reasons Why . He wrote the 2013 episode "Try" of Netflix's original series The Killing .
His wife's name is Jette. His father David wrote the 2008 memoir Beautiful Boy.
He was portrayed by Timothée Chalamet in the 2018 drama film Beautiful Boy.
