She was raised in Hudson Valley, New York, where she learned to appreciate flowers and gardening. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College.
She contributed to the book Bringing Nature Home: Floral Arrangements Inspired by Nature (2012).
Her mother and grandmother taught her about flowers.
