ABOUT OLAV HAUGE

Norwegian poet known for The Bullfinch Rising from the Cherry Tree and other poetry collections. Also a translator, he produced Norwegian versions of the works of such authors as William Butler Yeats , Arthur Rimbaud , and Bertolt Brecht .

He published his first poems in 1946. A little over a decade later, he won the prestigious Kritikerprisen Award for Norwegian literature.

His late-career poetry began to follow modernist and concrete models. He also found literary inspiration in Chinese poetry.

He was born in Ulvik, Norway and lived there until his death.

He translated poems by Stephen Crane and other prominent authors.
