He is an alumnus of the Georgia's DeKalb Center for the Performing Arts at Avondale High School. He started out with small parts in films like Juwanna Mann , Starsky & Hutch , and The Blind Side.

In 2016, his Selma director Ava DuVernay cast him in her TV series Queen Sugar. He also played Sherriff Barker in the horror films Halloween, Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends.
