He became the first signee to OBR Records, which was a subsidiary of Def Jam.
He was nominated for two Grammy Awards for his work on the 1986 single "The Rain." He released his sophomore album GTO: Gangsters Takin' Over in 1987.
He was born in Houston, Texas, and was raised in Harlem, New York.
