He played college basketball for Loyola Marymount University and UC Santa Barbara .

He's a fan of the TV show Friday Night Lights .

His mother Vicki Renée Johnson passed away when he was one year old. He was raised by his brothers, Jamell and Robert, and his sister-in-law, Shannan Damon.

The Sacramento Kings selected Johnson in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft.
