Democrat who served in the US House of Representatives from Colorado's 1st congressional district from 1973 to 1997.

She attained her law degree from Harvard Law School in 1964 before working for the National Labor Relations Board.

She was the first woman elected to Congress from Colorado in US history.

Her husband Jim was one of her key advisors throughout her political career.
