ABOUT PAULE MARSHALL

A twentieth-century American novelist, she is best known for Brown Girl, Brownstones, a work that describes the struggles of Barbadian immigrants in Brooklyn, New York. Her other works include Praisesong for the Widow, The Fisher King, and Triangular Road.

After graduating from Hunter College, she taught at Virginia Commonwealth University, the University of California, Berkeley, and the Iowa Writers' Workshop.

She is a MacArthur Fellow and also a winner of the Dos Passos Prize for Literature.

She was born in New York City to Barbadian immigrant parents.

She joined Langston Hughes on a world literary tour.
