Republican who served 6 terms as Senator from New Mexico from 1973 to 2009, which was the longest tenure in New Mexico's history. He served as Chairman of the very important Senate Committee on the Budget twice.
He taught math at Garfield Junior High in Albuquerque.
He was named Worst in the Senate in 2006 on environmental issues by the Republicans for Environmental Protection organization.
He has a daughter with schizophrenia.
He voted to impeach President Bill Clinton in 1998.
