ABOUT PETER VIERECK

Poet and academic who won the Pulitzer Prize in 1949 for a poetry collection entitled Terror and Decorum. He taught history at Mount Holyoke College for nearly five decades.

He graduated summa cum laude from Harvard University in 1937 with a B.A. in history. He published his debut poem, "Graves Are Made to Waltz On," in a 1940 issue of Poetry Magazine.

He was an important political thinker who wrote many essays on the topic of conservatism.

His father, George Sylvester Viereck, was an infamous Nazi sympathizer.

He was a staunch critic of William F. Buckley, Jr.
