ABOUT PETRO POROSHENKO

Ukrainian politician and businessman known for being the former Ukrainian president from 2014 to 2019, serving as the minister of foreign affairs from 2009 to 2010, and for being the Ukrainian minister of trade and economic development in the year 2012.

He studied at the Kyiv National University where he graduated with a degree in international relations and economics. He was involved in banking and other industries before transitioning into politics in the late 1990s. He was initially elected as a member of Parliament in 1998.

He is fluent in Ukrainian and Romanian. He was given the nickname The Chocolate King because of his confectionary company. He is also known for heading the Council of Ukraine's National Bank from 2007 to 2012 and for being the owner of the confectionary company Roshen.

He was born and raised in Bolhrad, Ukraine. He had an older brother who died in 1997. He married Maryna Perevedentseva in 1984. He has four children.

He was succeeded by Volodymyr Zelenskyy . He often had contentious relations with Vladimir Putin during his presidency due to the rising tensions and conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
