He was a member of the Black Panther Party during the 1960s and 1970s.

His work includes portraits of Maya Angelou , Rev. Ralph David Abernathy and Ronald Reagan .

He divorced Kanye West's mother Donda West in 1980. He was also married to Cheryl Carmichael West.

Kanye West told The New York Times that his father tried to convince him not to support Donald Trump .
