ABOUT RICHMAL CROMPTON
Though best remembered for her Just William young adult fiction series, this British author also penned numerous stand-alone works, including The Innermost Room, Millicent Dorrington, and Family Roundabout.
Before beginning her literary career, she earned a Classics degree from the University of London's Royal Holloway College and went on to become a schoolteacher.
She was active in the Women's Suffrage movement of the early 20th Century.
Born Richmal Crompton Lamburn, she grew up in Lancashire, England, as the daughter of Clara Crompton and the Reverend Edward John Sewell Lamburn. Her brother, John Battersby Crompton Lamburn (pen name: John Lambourne), became a successful fantasy writer.
She and fellow English author Beatrix Potter both wrote beloved works of children's literature.
